Cuauhtémoc mayor closes Rico Club for second time

Cuauhtémoc Mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega announced on Saturday the second closure of Rico Club bar, following neighbor complaints. The venue, publicly known as Rico Club but registered as Restaurante Bota’s Bar, had been ordered reopened by a tribunal after a prior February shutdown. Rojo de la Vega questioned the court ruling on social media.

Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, mayor of Cuauhtémoc, announced on Saturday the closure of Rico Club bar, located on Niza street between Londres and Hamburgo in Juárez neighborhood. This marks the second shutdown during her administration; the first was on October 2 last year for failing basic safety measures, including no trained medical staff, extinguisher responsibility letter, meeting point, seismic alarm, and drill certificates.

The latest closure followed neighbor complaints, with the mayor stating that 'razones sobran' and that the law, along with neighbors and patrons, demanded it. However, an administrative tribunal had previously ordered, on February 9, 2026, the removal of suspension seals placed that day, granting restitutory suspension effects to the business Restaurante Bota’s Bar, S.A. de C.V.

The court resolution requires compliance within three business days or a fine of 50 times the UMA under Mexico City's Administrative Justice Law. Rojo de la Vega shared the document on social media and questioned which side justice is on, noting the business operates as 'restaurante Botas Bar'.
