Cuban official denounces U.S. bid for control over island

Roberto Morales Ojeda accused the United States of seeking total domination over Cuba through sanctions and pressure.

On June 24, Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, posted on Facebook that Washington’s policy seeks to seize control of the island.

He noted that in the past every decision had to be cleared with the U.S. ambassador in Havana. Morales Ojeda said sovereign Cuban decisions are met only with contempt, sanctions and fallacious arguments.

The official stressed that Cuba remains open to dialogue based on mutual respect and poses no threat. He added that Washington’s alternative is to provoke scarcity and despair, which the UN defines as genocide.

The statements come amid bilateral tensions and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed for more than six decades, along with an energy embargo.
