Actor Ed Harris is expected to reprise his role as Everett McKinney with more prominence in the second season of the Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch. The development follows his public criticism of being underused in season 1. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2027.
Harris, who plays a Vietnam veteran and veterinarian on the Paramount+ series, voiced frustration in interviews with Variety. He said producers had described the character as one of four leads prior to filming, but that did not match the final cut.
"Prior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do, and that I was one of the four main characters — and that wasn't really the case," Harris said. He also noted a deleted scene in which his character was meant to sing.
According to Deadline, Harris will be front and center in Season 2. The actor signed a two-year deal that includes an option for a third season. Annette Bening, who plays his on-screen love interest Beulah, cited Harris' involvement as a key reason she joined the cast.
