Egypt outlines 200-megawatt solar project in undp talks

Egypt is moving forward with a plan to generate 200 megawatts of solar power for state-owned industrial sites. The initiative was discussed on Monday during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Issa and a senior United Nations official.

The talks took place at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. They focused on structural reforms aimed at improving the performance and financial sustainability of state assets.

Hussein Issa stressed the government’s goal of maintaining economic stability through better governance and greater private sector involvement. He highlighted the State Ownership Policy as a way to boost competitiveness and create jobs.

Chitose Noguchi, the UNDP resident representative in Egypt, confirmed the agency’s support for the solar project and other green transition efforts. She also noted ongoing cooperation with Egyptian bodies to help small and medium enterprises access finance and meet global standards.

Issa said all policies ultimately seek to raise living standards for citizens. The meeting was also attended by officials from the Foreign Ministry and UNDP Egypt.
