The images depict a figure resembling Queen Marika with both braids, indicating a pre-Shattering timeline, and other elements like gallows matching the game's opening scene. Filming began recently, following the April 20 announcement of a March 3, 2028 release and full cast.
A24 announced the Elden Ring adaptation on May 22, 2025, with Bandai Namco confirming it the next day. Directed by Alex Garland, the project involves producers Bandai Namco Filmworks, DNA Films, and George R.R. Martin. Garland, known for Ex Machina and Annihilation, delivered a 160-page screenplay to FromSoftware's Hidetaka Miyazaki and has completed seven playthroughs of the game, citing Malenia as the hardest boss in an IGN interview last year. A24 and Bandai Namco revealed the March 3, 2028 release date and cast on April 20, including Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Kit Connor, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Peter Serafinowicz, Sonoya Mizuno, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird, and Nick Offerman. The film's budget is reportedly well over $100 million. Earlier this month, Twitch streamer THROX shared photos from an English field set featuring a Church of Marika. The latest leaks, first shared by Shortlist on April 21, come from London's Old Royal Naval College's Painted Hall, closed for filming. Props include a Stormveil-labeled barrel, Leyndell Streets sign, lanterns and cages from the Academy of Raya Lucaria, and gallows resembling those from the Dung Eater's scene. A distant photo shows a braided figure like young Marika, possibly Spaeny, with a Hornsent nearby and a helmeted soldier akin to a Leyndell Knight.
