Enthusiast 3D prints custom Dyson vacuum tool holder

A technology enthusiast has created a functional 3D-printed tool holder for Dyson vacuum cleaners to organize cleaning heads. The design attaches to the vacuum's wand and accommodates multiple attachments. This project highlights practical uses of 3D printing for home tools.

The author, who has used 3D printing for years to create household items, designed a Dyson tool holder to address the issue of misplacing cleaning heads. The standard Dyson dock lacks sufficient storage, leading to disorganization during cleaning tasks. The printed holder secures up to six cleaning heads directly on the vacuum's long extension wand using four M3 screws.

This model was printed on a Prusa Mini Plus but is compatible with printers like the Bambu Labs A1, priced at $280. It is specifically designed for the Dyson V11 but functions well with the V8 and even the bulky hair tool. The holder works with any Dyson cordless vacuum featuring the same-diameter wand extension, and the vacuum still fits into its standard charging dock. For those preferring less bulk, a wall-mounted version is available. The author matched the Dyson's purple color using Polymaker Polylite PETG filament in purple, noting it appears slightly lighter.

Beyond the Dyson holder, the author explored other 3D prints, such as a drawer knife holder for five knives, printed in mint green PLA from Polymaker. This design protects blade edges and integrates with Ikea drawer separators. Custom cookie cutters were made using CookieAI, including one modeled after the author's dog, Jasper, from a silhouette photo edited in Apple Photos. The PLA-printed cutter required Saran Wrap over dough due to non-food-safe materials to avoid microplastics and bacteria.

Additional projects include Gridfinity modular storage systems for organizing items like screws in book-like containers, adjustable home phone mounts from Pork3D painted red with Krylon Fusion Plastic spray paint, a car vent phone mount by SethMoser with MagSafe support, and customizable holiday snowflakes via Makerworld, printed at 3-4 mm thickness for durability.

Engineers at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus have designed a new airflow device that traps exhaled aerosols almost immediately, sharply reducing exposure to airborne pathogens in simulations. Early results suggest the system can substantially outperform conventional ventilation approaches in shared indoor spaces.

A CNET article compiles a list of top 3D printing accessories based on a decade of experience, aimed at improving print quality, organization, and ease of use. These tools range from simple adhesives to advanced upgrades, suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike. The recommendations emphasize affordability and practicality for everyday printing tasks.

Dyson has launched its PencilVac in the US, a remarkably thin and lightweight cordless vacuum that resembles a pencil more than a traditional cleaner. Priced at $599, it promises powerful suction in a compact design ideal for light tasks. Early tests highlight its ease of use, though its small dustbin may limit it for larger homes.

Following the comprehensive testing methodology outlined in this series, CNET updated its robot vacuum recommendations for January 2026. The Mova V50 Ultra Complete is the best overall pick, leading in sand pickup across surfaces. Other standouts: Dreame X50 Ultra for cleaning coverage and iRobot Roomba 205 DustCompactor Combo as the top budget option under $500.

TechRadar has shared first impressions of Dyson's new Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum, praising its feature set while criticizing the accompanying app. The review highlights a potential redemption for Dyson's robot vacuum lineup just before the holiday season. Published on December 23, 2025, the piece expresses hope for better performance in future updates.

Disneyland has introduced a 3D-printed canoe as a prop on its iconic Jungle Cruise ride, marking a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and the Florida-based startup Haddy. This innovation replaces traditional fiberglass with polymer, aiming to speed up production and enable recycling. The canoe, modeled from a 1960s original via 3D scanning, now sits across from the ride's loading dock.

Scientists at the University of Bonn have created a patent-pending filter that removes over 99 percent of microplastics from washing machine wastewater. Inspired by the gill systems of filter-feeding fish, the device prevents clogging and could be integrated into future laundry machines. This innovation addresses a key source of environmental pollution from textile fibers.
