Gachagua's DCP unveils youth-led strategy ahead of 2027 elections

Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens' Party (DCP) has launched a new initiative to train and empower young leaders as it prepares for the 2027 General Elections. The strategy aims to mobilize youth votes and increase representation in Parliament. Party Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga announced the plans at a meeting in Nairobi.

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi, Party Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga outlined the party's new youth-focused approach to transform Kenya's political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. The event was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DCP Deputy Cleophas Malala, along with other senior officials.

Thiga emphasized the youth wing's readiness to lead change, stating, "We are the generation that refuses to be silenced. The ones who know that our revolution will not be televised; it will be organised." She announced the rollout of a Youth Training Manual, which she called the 'political bible' for young aspirants. This manual will train and empower emerging leaders to advance DCP's vision and core values.

"From this, we shall build capacity, sharpen minds, and create a new breed of leaders, unbought, unbowed, and unstoppable," Thiga added. The party plans to train and support over 300 young aspirants, establish youth offices in all 47 counties, mobilize at least three million youth votes, and launch chapters in universities and colleges nationwide.

Highlighting current underrepresentation, Thiga noted that only 52 out of 330 Members of Parliament are youth. The DCP aims to capture over 100 parliamentary seats in 2027 and lead the opposition to victory. To boost participation, she called for waiving nomination fees for youth aspirants.

The strategy also addresses gender equality, with Thiga pointing out that only 12 out of 1,450 elected MCAs are young women. "Achieving the two-thirds gender rule is not a constitutional burden but a moral duty. We will ensure young women stand shoulder to shoulder with young men in leadership," she emphasized.
