Georgia couple charged with murder of Atlanta bartender

A man and a woman in Georgia have been charged with the murder of an Atlanta bartender whose dismembered remains were found in a reservoir west of the city.

Mario Andre Barber, 46, and Brittany Amber Baker, 42, each face one count of murder in the death of 37-year-old Jamal Parker, according to jail records.

Human remains were discovered on May 15 in the Dog River Reservoir in Douglasville. Investigators used images of a tattoo on the body to seek public help with identification. On June 15 the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the victim as Parker through DNA analysis. Charges were filed the following day.

Parker’s father told WSB-TV that a former girlfriend of the victim contacted authorities after seeing the tattoo images on the news. He provided his own DNA sample to assist investigators. The father described the circumstances of the death as resembling events seen on television and said the family could not hold a regular funeral.

Deputies believe Parker was killed at a residence on Langdale Chase Street in Douglasville. In late May, investigators searched the home for four days and removed a reciprocating saw, cleaning supplies, and air fresheners. Barber and Baker also face additional charges related to identity theft, forgery, and drugs.
