Major retailers are warning that demand for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles could outstrip supply when Grand Theft Auto 6 launches in November.
A senior games buyer for a major retailer told The Game Business that ongoing hardware component availability issues mean stores will not receive the desired units ahead of the game. The source added that demand will likely outstrip supply during the year-end period.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19 and is available only on current-generation consoles. Retailers expect a surge in interest from consumers who have delayed upgrades until the title arrives.
Xbox raised prices last October and is set to increase them again in August. PlayStation raised prices last year and again in April amid chip shortages and other factors.
