Heather Donahue says she is not participating in Blair Witch reboot

Actress Rei Hance, formerly known as Heather Donahue, has stated she will not take part in an upcoming reimagining of The Blair Witch Project.

Hance made the clarification in a Facebook comment responding to producer James Wan. She said there was confusion about her involvement and confirmed she is not participating in the project.

The reimagining is in development at Lionsgate and Blumhouse with Dylan Clark attached to direct. Wan had recently suggested that original cast members and filmmakers were being consulted for the update.

Hance explained that an agreement offered to her raised concerns over rights, future use of her identity and voice, freedom to speak, and compensation. She said preserving her autonomy was more important than signing.

The original 1999 film starred Hance along with Michael Williams and Joshua Leonard. Plans for the new version call for production to begin this fall.
