Hong Kong issues red rainstorm warning for intense thundery showers

The Hong Kong Observatory issued a red rainstorm warning on Monday morning after upgrading from an amber signal. Authorities advised schools on safety measures for students.

The Hong Kong Observatory upgraded the amber rainstorm warning to red at 8.05am on Monday. The amber warning had been issued at 7.10am amid areas of intense thundery showers affecting Hong Kong.

Authorities urged schools to implement contingency measures. Schools in session were told to continue until the end of school hours and ensure conditions are safe before allowing students to return home.

The warning was issued as the forecaster responded to the weather conditions on Monday morning.
