Severe storms cause casualties in China's Hubei province

Severe storms swept through several cities in eastern Hubei on Monday night, causing casualties. Rescue efforts are ongoing.

The provincial emergency management department said thunderstorms, strong winds and tornadoes affected Huangshi, Huanggang, Ezhou and Xianning cities between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday.

As of 1:47 a.m. Tuesday, the Hubei Meteorological Bureau kept 117 weather alerts active, including 23 red warnings.

The bureau urged residents to monitor rainfall and river conditions and take precautions against flooding and other emergencies.

Storms kill 11 in central China's Hubei Province

Thunderstorms and gales hit parts of Hubei Province on Monday night, killing 11 people and leaving one missing. Another 331 were injured in the affected cities.

Typhoon Maysak triggered severe flooding in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region over the weekend, leaving at least four people dead and eight missing. Tens of thousands of residents have been evacuated as rescue operations continue.

China's Housing Ministry has ordered local governments to strengthen drainage and flood controls as Super Typhoon Bavi approaches eastern China.

A landslide in Longnan, Gansu Province, killed 21 of 33 people caught in the disaster and injured seven others, most of them woodworkers buried on Tuesday.

A severe storm and rain on April 29 in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district killed seven people, including two children. More than 21 others were injured. The district administration has initiated relief efforts.
