Heavy rain fell across Gangwon Province and southern regions of South Korea on Saturday, leading authorities to restrict access to mountain trails and disrupting a local festival.
According to the weather agency, a maximum of 223 millimeters of rain fell on Misiryeong Pass in Gangwon Province by 4 p.m. on June 20. Access to high-altitude trails at Mount Seorak was restricted, and most trails at Mount Halla were closed.
Organizers of the Gangneung Danoje Festival canceled or rescheduled some programs. The fire service in Busan received 49 reports of accidents linked to strong winds and heavy rain. Landslide warnings were raised for Gangwon and North Gyeongsang provinces.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said rain would continue nationwide through Saturday evening, with waves up to 5 meters expected in the East Sea through Sunday.
