Zlatan Ibrahimovic announced his retirement from television punditry live on air after the 2026 World Cup final. The former Sweden striker had joined Fox Sports for the tournament as a first-time analyst.
Following Spain’s 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina, Ibrahimovic told viewers the tournament marked the end of his broadcasting role. The 44-year-old, who earned 122 caps for Sweden, had worked alongside Rebecca Lowe, Thierry Henry and Alexi Lalas.
“I’ve been talking a lot the last one-and-a-half months, so this will be my last words,” he said on air. Ibrahimovic thanked the United States and the production team before confirming there would be no return.
“This was the first and last time for me – so take care, everybody,” he added when asked by host Rebecca Lowe if he was leaving for good.
Despite lacking prior punditry experience, Ibrahimovic gained popularity for his direct style during the month-long coverage.
