Idaho father charged after refusing care for daughter

Joshua Bailey, 34, faces felony injury to a child charges after allegedly denying medical treatment to his 10-year-old daughter at Idaho Falls Community Hospital. The girl, who has cerebral palsy, was brought in on Sept. 23, 2025, with a bacterial infection and sepsis. Court documents detail how Bailey refused tests and interventions despite warnings that her condition was life-threatening.

Police reports state that Bailey told doctors the hospital machines were causing the problems and that his daughter did not need help. Staff informed him that without treatment her odds of dying rose by 10 percent each hour. Child Protective Services intervened after medical staff determined the child faced imminent danger.

Deputies from the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office responded to the hospital after reports of a disgruntled parent. An arrest warrant was issued in December 2025. Bailey was taken into custody this month and posted a $25,000 bond on June 14 before his release.

He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 1. The current health status of the child was not disclosed in the documents.
