Jacob deGrom undergoes MRI on right knee after warmup discomfort

Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom had an MRI on his right knee Tuesday morning following discomfort felt during pregame warmups Monday night. He still pitched five innings in a 2-1 victory over the Mariners at Globe Life Field. Manager Skip Schumaker shared details on the issue.

ARLINGTON -- Jacob deGrom experienced discomfort in his right knee during bullpen warmups before Monday's game against the Mariners. The Rangers' ace underwent an MRI on the knee Tuesday morning, as a precaution after the sensation arose ahead of the 2-1 win at Globe Life Field. deGrom threw just 78 pitches over five innings, allowing one run, with 15 of those pitches coming against Cal Raleigh in two at-bats. The coaching staff opted not to push him into a potential sixth inning despite his readiness. deGrom told reporters postgame, “We were contemplating the sixth [inning]. I said, 'I can do it.' We decided to just make sure it's fine. … It's a little tender, but I think we'll be OK.” He reported feeling fine but sore Tuesday morning, without having done baseball activities yet. Manager Skip Schumaker noted deGrom “felt a little something” in his right knee before the start, adding that it did not significantly impact his performance. Schumaker is set to provide further updates after the second game of the series against Seattle.
