Jazz Chisholm Jr. exits Yankees game with toe injury

Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. left Sunday’s game against the Twins after five innings due to right big toe discomfort. X-rays on the toe were negative. The team said he will be reassessed further on Monday.

Chisholm injured the toe while rounding first base on a single off right-hander Joe Ryan in the second inning. He stayed in the game for another at-bat in the fifth inning before limping off after hitting a fly ball.

José Caballero replaced him at second base after moving from third base, while Amed Rosario entered at third. Chisholm has dealt with the same toe issue since May 13, 2023, when he played for the Marlins.

“There is a little bit of throbbing in there. When you aggravate it, it hurts,” Chisholm said. “You don’t move the same [way] sometimes. It was a huge relief [knowing] I’m good.”

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone defended second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. following a defensive miscue that led to a loss against the Tampa Bay Rays. The error occurred in the bottom of the 10th inning of Saturday's game in St. Petersburg. Boone dismissed suggestions that Chisholm was confused about the rules.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesús Sánchez left Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after being struck by a ball thrown from the stands at Camden Yards. The incident occurred during the sixth inning of a 9-5 Orioles win.
