Kim Jong-un congratulates Laos' Thongloun Sisoulith on reelection

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to Laos President Thongloun Sisoulith on his reelection as the nation's leader. Kim expressed hope for further developing ties between the two countries. The message follows their talks in Pyongyang last October.

North Korean state media reported on Tuesday that leader Kim Jong-un sent a congratulatory message to Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party's Central Committee, on April 1. Sisoulith was reelected as Laos president at the first session of the new parliament on March 23, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim described the reelection as an expression of "deep trust and strong support" from Laos' ruling party, government and people toward Sisoulith. He expressed conviction that "friendly and cooperative relations between our two parties and two countries will continue to deepen and develop in accordance with the spirit of an agreement reached at our meeting in October last year in Pyongyang," KCNA said.

The North's leader held talks with Sisoulith in Pyongyang on October 7 last year, on the occasion of the 80th founding anniversary of North Korea's Workers' Party. They agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
