Lambourn Open Day returns on Good Friday in 2026

The Lambourn Open Day, a longstanding event in British horse racing, will return on April 3, 2026, after a three-decade tradition. Visitors can tour top trainers' yards in the morning and enjoy family-friendly activities in the afternoon. All proceeds will support local charities focused on stable staff welfare and emergency services.

Lambourn, a key hub for British horse racing, will host its Open Day on Good Friday, April 3, 2026. This event, established over three decades ago, highlights the area's central role in the sport while generating funds for community causes.

In the morning, more than 20 trainers specializing in Flat and National Hunt racing will open their yards to the public. Prominent figures including Nicky Henderson, Archie Watson, Clive Cox, Ed Walker, Jamie Osborne, Jamie Snowden, and Richard Hughes will participate. Nick Scholfield will welcome visitors to his yard for the first time, offering insights into daily operations and interactions with horses and staff.

The afternoon shifts to the main showground, featuring attractions for all ages. Racing icon John Francome, newly appointed as the 2026 patron, will attend and join the festivities. Key highlights include celebrity show jumping, the Shetland Grand National, schooling sessions with leading jockeys, and the Windsor Clive International Parade of Equine Heroes. Additional offerings encompass displays, trade stands, family entertainment, and the Outside Chance Beer Tent, open from midday.

Profits primarily benefit the Lambourn Valley Housing Trust, which aids stable staff welfare, as well as local facilities and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance for emergency care.

Mark Smyly, chairman of the event, emphasized its value: “Lambourn Open Day is always a special occasion for the sport and for everyone connected to the area. It gives racing fans the chance to see how these yards work on a daily basis, meet the horses and the people behind them, and enjoy a brilliant day out. With top-class yards open in the morning and a packed afternoon programme, there really is something for everyone, of all ages.”

Tickets are available now via the official website.
