Lawyer summits 10 mountains wearing Tudor Heritage Ranger

Amarveer Brar, a Los Angeles lawyer, has summited ten mountains over ten years with his Tudor Heritage Ranger watch on his wrist. The durable timepiece accompanied him through grueling climbs, including an 18-hour ascent of Mount Shuksan. He engraved the case back to commemorate the achievement.

Amarveer Brar, a lawyer specializing in land use and environmental law in Los Angeles, set a personal goal in the mid-2010s to summit ten mountains in ten years. His journey began after a glacier storm in Iceland and reading Into Thin Air, leading him to tackle peaks like Mount Elbert, Mount Baker, Mount Shasta, and Mount Shuksan. Summit days often lasted 12 to 15 hours, with his longest at 18 hours on Mount Shuksan. Throughout, his Tudor Heritage Ranger ref. 79910 proved reliable in harsh conditions, its simple design with painted markers, drilled lugs, and red seconds hand suiting the demands of mountaineering, skiing, hiking, and off-roading. Brar values the watch's ties to exploration heritage, calling it purposeful and cool-looking. To mark completing his goal, he engraved the case back with a scene from his Mont Blanc climb via the Trois Monts Route from Gran Paradiso, adding “10/10.” He appreciates the off-center engraving for its authenticity. Looking ahead, Brar plans more technical routes in Central and South America, favoring robust tool watches from the 1980s to early 2000s. “It’s one step at a time,” he said, advising others to start small and build momentum, whether climbing or collecting watches.

A hands-on examination of the Tudor Ranger watches in 36mm and 39mm sizes reveals solid construction and versatile sizing, but raises concerns over finishing and dial design. The reviewer tested beige-dial and black-dial versions, noting their appeal as go-anywhere field watches inspired by historic Tudor models. Prices start at €3,290 for the 39mm on a fabric strap.
