Spain's Civil Guard has detained a man as the alleged perpetrator in the death of his 19-year-old partner, whose body was found on Sunday in a home in Librilla, Murcia. The probe points to a possible sexist murder, with no prior gender violence complaints. If confirmed, it would be the 34th victim from such violence this year.
On Sunday afternoon, around 3 p.m., Spain's Civil Guard found the lifeless body of a 19-year-old woman in a home in Librilla, a municipality of about 6,000 residents in the Murcia region. The young woman lived in the property with her romantic partner, a man who was detained hours later as the alleged perpetrator of the crime. Investigation sources told EFE there were no prior records of abuse or gender violence complaints.
Officers gathered information at the home and took statements from the victim's family and neighbors. The Civil Guard considers it a sexist murder that occurred the same Sunday. In a post on his X profile, Murcia's government delegate Francisco Lucas stated: "My deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young woman allegedly murdered in Librilla. If the sexist murder is confirmed, it would be the second victim from gender violence this year in the Murcia region".
This case adds to another recent one in Alicante, where two men were arrested on Friday for the death of a 37-year-old woman, whose body was found in an advanced state of decomposition; one was her partner. So far in 2025, 32 women have been killed by their partners or ex-partners, and these two incidents could raise the figure to 34. Since official statistics began in 2003, the total stands at 1,327 victims, or 1,328 if this is confirmed.
