Moderates open to governing with SD in Dalarna

The Moderates in Region Dalarna presented a budget alternative yesterday ahead of the autumn election. The party opens the door to cooperation with the Sweden Democrats and other parties if moderate policies gain traction.

The budget proposal covers 2027 and the entire next mandate period. The Moderates want to increase accessibility in healthcare, make public transport more flexible, strengthen business and broaden funding for culture.

Special focus is placed on reducing mental health problems and shortening care queues at Falu hospital. Improvements are also proposed for hospitals in Ludvika, Mora and Avesta.

– We do not enter a majority without moderate policies. If our proposals gain support we can join the majority, otherwise we will be in opposition, says Ulf Berg.

The party stresses that it will not enter any majority without backing for its policies.

The Liberals' party board has narrowly approved a cooperation that opens for Sweden Democrats in a future government. The decision reverses the party's previous stance and has led to divisions and resignations within the party. The issue will be decided at a party congress on March 22.

The Moderates demand that Avesta hospital be prioritized in Region Dalarna's upcoming budget. The party proposes new construction or extensive renovation, along with investments in a sleep lab and eye clinic. Opposition councilor Ulf Berg (M) states that the hospital's development has stalled during the last mandate period.

Liberalerna in Dalarna is struggling to find candidates for the 2026 election and lacks viable politicians in several municipalities. Candidate lists must be registered with Valmyndigheten by April 9. The party is working until the last minute to address issues in places like Vansbro, Mora, and Leksand.

Despite recent candidate shortages in some municipalities, 491 candidates from twelve parties have been nominated for Dalarna's regional council election this autumn—115 more than in 2022. The Green Party and Liberals, which faced list gaps in several areas, are aiming for a comeback after losing seats in 2022. Nearly all are on locked lists.
