The Valparaíso governor and the housing minister agreed that the expropriated land will be assigned by order of arrival and not automatically to those occupying the megatoma.
Rodrigo Mundaca and Iván Poduje met on June 29 to address the San Antonio megatoma. Both rejected normalizing land takeovers and stressed that families with prior savings and years of waiting must have priority.
Poduje criticized the presence of high-standard houses and second homes in the takeover. The minister stated that “that is not poverty, that is cheekiness” and confirmed the land will be assigned by seniority and vulnerability.
Eviction of a first 5.4-hectare polygon will begin on June 30 with 120 Carabineros officers. Manuel Millones detailed that 50 hectares have already been cleared and the province has a deficit of 12,000 homes.
