Netflix released first-look photos Monday for its upcoming sequel series to A Different World. The 10-episode show is scheduled to debut on the streaming service Thursday, Sept. 24. It centers on the daughter of original characters Whitley and Dwayne as she attends Hillman College.
The series follows Deborah Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon, described as a free spirit figuring out her path at the historically Black college. She is joined by new students including Rashida Duvall, Shaquille Johnson, Amir Rodale, Hazel Henry, and Kojo Achebe.
Seven original cast members are returning, including Jasmine Guy as Whitley Gilbert, Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne Wayne, Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Lena James. Felicia Pride serves as creator and showrunner, with Debbie Allen as executive producer and director.
The single-camera dramedy is set against the rituals and nuances of an HBCU experience. The original series aired for six seasons on NBC from 1987 to 1993.
