Opposition leaders criticized the government over police action on student protesters and paper leaks during Tuesday's Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations Amendment Bill 2026.
Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he would have to change the angle of his heart rather than that of the cameras to win over Gen Z. She recalled visiting a Delhi hospital to meet the mother of a girl critically injured in police action during the July 20 march on Parliament.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav invoked the Emergency while flagging police oppression against student protesters. Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi said the government is not serious about education and called the amendments a cosmetic exercise.
Minister Jitendra Singh said the bill would protect the interests of students and youths. The debate focused on the failure of the existing law and lack of genuine education reforms.
