Penelope Cruz is finally confronting her lifelong fear of driving at 52, thanks to a flashy push from U2's Bono. The actress spilled on Hot Ones that the rocker's birthday gift has her rethinking her phobia. Her husband Javier Bardem is in the same boat.
Cruz revealed the drama during her Hot Ones appearance. "My friend Bono gave me a car for my last birthday," she said. "How crazy that sounds, but he gave me a car and I think that is like the ultimate push to do it."
She traced the fear back to childhood trauma. At eight or nine, she watched her sister Monica get hit by a car, an image that still triggers anxiety even on short rides.
Bardem confirmed the couple's driving drought at last year's F1 premiere. "It's funny having in mind that neither of us drive," he told People. "She doesn't drive. I barely know how to drive."
The car sits waiting, but Cruz admits the phobia runs deep. Will she finally get behind the wheel, or will Bono's gift collect dust?
