Tiundaskolan in Uppsala is marking World Poetry Day, observed annually on March 21 since UNESCO established it in 1999. The day's aim is to promote reading, writing, teaching about, and publishing poetry. The school starts celebrations early on March 20 with a poetry walk featuring poems by students in grades 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9, displayed around the school, in Giraffparken, and in shop windows at Handelsbanken, Café Lejon, Trappan, Svenska mäklarhuset, and the entrance to Coop Konsum along Ringgatan. Several students also took part in the Sustainable Poetry contest, writing about a sustainable future linked to the 17 global goals. This year's theme is Love for sustainable development. The concept of sustainable poetry walks began in Trelleborg in 2019 during the town's first poetry festival and has since spread to other Swedish municipalities and schools across Europe. More poetry walks are set for various locations on March 21, 2025.
