Police in Stralsund remove 40 intoxicated drivers in two days
In Stralsund, police pulled 40 intoxicated drivers off the roads over two days. Only one had consumed alcohol, with the rest using drugs. The checks aimed to improve road safety.
On October 9 and 10, officers in Stralsund (Vorpommern-Rügen district) conducted checks under the motto 'Alcohol, Drugs and Medications in Road Traffic.' They inspected about 420 vehicles, detecting 19 administrative offenses and 32 criminal acts. Among these, 40 cases involved intoxicated drivers: only one had alcohol in their system, while the other 39 had consumed drugs, with specific substances not disclosed.
Additionally, police filed 31 reports for carried weapons, drugs, or missing driver's licenses. The operation sought to enhance road safety, as stated by authorities.
In broader context: Up to June 2024, the district recorded 572 reports for intoxicated drivers, rising to 822 for the year so far. A police spokesperson noted expectations of an increase in such offenses compared to previous years. These figures highlight the ongoing challenge of drugs in traffic, with recent controls emphasizing prevention.
