Pulwama attack mastermind Burhan Hamza killed in Muzaffarabad

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Burhan Hamza in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The man known as the mastermind of the 2019 Pulwama attack was critically wounded and later died at a hospital in Rawalpindi.

Officials said Hamza was ambushed in the Cheela Bandi area of Muzaffarabad. He was critically wounded and died after being airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi. The assailants fled before security forces arrived.

Hamza, also known as Arjumand Gulzar or Doctor, was held responsible for the 2019 suicide attack on a CRPF convoy that killed 40 personnel. The strike by Jaish-e-Mohammad dealt a major blow to India. The Indian government had designated him a terrorist under UAPA in 2022.

His elder sister stated that the family learned of the incident via Facebook. She said Hamza often told relatives he had gone to Pakistan for studies but later lost contact.
