A ransomware group has released data from a contractor working on the Kudankulam nuclear power project in India. The incident involved 14.3 GB of files from Reliance Infrastructure.
The attack targeted systems belonging to Reliance Infrastructure, an engineering contractor for Units 3 and 4 at the Kudankulam plant. Data were hosted by Yotta Data Services, which detected suspicious activity on May 29. The files appeared online on June 11.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited issued a clarification on July 15. It stated that the stolen files relate only to infrastructure beyond the plant’s nuclear island. The released material includes ventilation system layouts, floor plans, supplier lists and insurance documents.
CERT-In is now investigating the breach along with Reliance and Yotta. The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited has confirmed that the plant’s core operational systems remain unaffected.
