Filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is set to write, direct and produce an original Christmas animated film titled 'The Naughty List' at Paramount Animation. The project marks the first major development under the label's new leader, Jennifer Dodge. Rodriguez confirmed the news on social media, drawing from a concept he developed over a decade ago with his children.
Robert Rodriguez, known for action-packed films like 'Alita: Battle Angel' and 'From Dusk Till Dawn', is returning to family entertainment with 'The Naughty List'. Paramount sources describe the movie as blending holiday themes with a modern approach. It builds on Rodriguez's past success with the youth audience through the 'Spy Kids' franchise. The film originates from drawings and stories Rodriguez created with his children more than 10 years ago. Rodriguez shared the announcement on social media on Monday, revealing his background as a cartoonist. 'A little trivia: way back in the day I was a cartoonist before I became a filmmaker. So I’m super pumped to share that I’m returning to one of my first loves—drawing and animation—and directing my first animated feature with Paramount Animation!' he wrote. He called it a 'funny, irreverent, surprising Christmas tale for the whole family.' Jennifer Dodge, who joined Paramount in January, oversees the animation group as its leader. She reports to co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein. Previously, Dodge was president of Spin Master entertainment, handling projects like 'PAW Patrol'. No production timeline has been announced.
