The Agricultural and Livestock Service confirmed the first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a wild bird in the Atacama Region.
The finding was recorded in a booby bird detected in the commune of Caldera. The bird showed respiratory symptoms compatible with the disease. The SAG activated the corresponding sanitary protocols. The region joins Arica and Parinacota as the northern areas of the country with positive H5N1 detections in wild fauna. Currently 12 regions of the country register cases of avian influenza in wild birds, including the Metropolitan Region. The agency launched an epidemiological investigation and reinforced surveillance in the sector.
