The National Consumer Service (Sernac) announced that Nissan has issued a safety alert for over 5,500 Navara (D23) pickup trucks sold in Chile from 2022 to 2025, due to an issue that could cause braking failures during severe off-road driving. No accidents related to this defect have been reported so far. Owners should check their vehicle's VIN on Nissan's website and visit a dealership for a free repair.
On Tuesday, the National Consumer Service (Sernac) notified a safety alert issued by Nissan for the Navara (D23) pickup truck model, sold in Chile from 2022 to 2025. According to the agency, the defect affects vehicles of Mexican and Argentine origin, with up to 5,561 units potentially impacted.
The issue arises during severe 'off-road' driving conditions, where excessive vibration could crack the brake tube, causing a brake fluid leak. This would lead to a loss of hydraulic pressure, resulting in progressive or total braking failure, increasing the risk of collision and injuries to occupants and third parties.
"According to information provided by Nissan, it has been detected that, in constant uses of severe ‘Off-road’ driving, excessive vibration could crack the brake tube, causing a brake fluid leak," Sernac explained in its statement.
To date, no accidents have been reported due to this defect. To address it, Nissan provides an inspection, evaluation, and replacement of the brake tube support with a new reinforced bracket. The procedure is free and takes approximately 24 minutes.
Owners of the affected trucks should check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Nissan's website to confirm if their unit is included in the list. They are then advised to contact the company or visit the nearest dealership to schedule the repair.
This alert highlights the importance of preventive checks on off-road vehicles, especially those used in demanding terrains, to ensure road safety in Chile.
