Shohei Ohtani battles blister and knee in Dodgers win

Shohei Ohtani allowed a season-high four earned runs in the fifth inning against the Rays on Wednesday but the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 5-4 victory to complete a three-game sweep.

Ohtani cruised through four scoreless innings before a blister on his right middle finger flared up. Tampa Bay scored four times in the fifth on a double, sacrifice fly, singles and a fielder's choice.

The Dodgers tied the game in the bottom half on a two-run homer by Freddie Freeman. Ohtani then pinch-hit for Miguel Rojas and grounded out on the first pitch. He returned to retire the side in order in the sixth before exiting after 91 pitches.

Ohtani's ERA rose from 0.74 to 1.47 after allowing seven earned runs in his last two starts. Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani remains scheduled for his next start against the Twins next Wednesday.

"Just part of the game," Ohtani said through an interpreter. "There's not a lot of situations where you feel 100%."

In the Dodgers-Mets series finale, as previewed amid shoulder soreness that sidelined him from hitting, Shohei Ohtani dominated on the mound with 10 strikeouts in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 8-2 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday night. The loss extended the Mets' skid to seven games.

During the Toronto Blue Jays' 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Wednesday's series finale at Rogers Centre, outfielder George Springer approached the umpire to question Shohei Ohtani's between-innings warm-up routine. The issue arose after Ohtani, who reached base in the top of the first, returned to the mound with less than a minute left on the pitch clock, echoing complaints from Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.
