Solar outburst may bring northern lights across Sweden tonight

A solar outburst offers chances to see the northern lights across Sweden tonight. Meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist from Klart highlights both challenges and opportunities.

The sun has ejected charged particles in a coronal mass ejection. When the particles reach Earth’s magnetic field they can create conditions for northern lights across much of the country. Lasse Rydqvist explains that activity is stronger than normal for June. He notes however that the timing is tricky near the summer solstice. In northern Sweden the midnight sun hinders visibility. Further south the odds improve if the sky is clear and the northern horizon is free. Cameras can capture the phenomenon better than the naked eye.
