Star Wars: fate of the old republic game rejects generative ai

Arcanaut Studios is developing Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic without generative AI tools. The project is led by former BioWare director Casey Hudson and backed by GreaterThan Group.

The game was unveiled at the 2025 Game Awards showcase. Hudson, who now heads Arcanaut Studios, confirmed the decision in comments to Bloomberg. He described generative AI as creatively soulless and said he remains unimpressed with its potential uses in development.

Arcanaut Studios has updated its website with profiles of key team members for its upcoming Star Wars game, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. Owlcat Games has revealed it employs generative AI during development of its sci-fi RPG The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, but only for prototyping and placeholders that will be replaced by human work. The studio also announced a spring 2027 release, a closed beta starting April 22, and day-one availability on Game Pass Ultimate.

Developer S-Game Studio has stated it will not use AI visual technology in Phantom Blade Zero that could alter its artists' original intent. The Beijing-based studio emphasized human craftsmanship in the game's development following its listing among titles supporting Nvidia's DLSS 5. The action-RPG is set for release on PS5 and PC later this year.
