Sturgill Simpson announces North American tour as Johnny Blue Skies

Sturgill Simpson has announced a North American tour under his Johnny Blue Skies alias, backed by his band the Dark Clouds. The Mutiny for the Masses Tour supports his album Mutiny After Midnight and runs from early September in Austin, Texas, to Halloween in Lexington, Kentucky, with no opening acts.

Sturgill Simpson, performing as Johnny Blue Skies, will hit the road this fall with the Mutiny for the Masses Tour. The dates begin September 4 at Moody Center in Austin, Texas, and conclude October 30 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. The tour features the Dark Clouds and no openers, as detailed in the itinerary released by Pitchfork on April 1. Key stops include the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on September 11; Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on September 18; and Barclays Center in Brooklyn on October 16. Stops continue through cities like Nashville, Chicago, Boston, and Atlanta before wrapping up. The tour coincides with strong chart performance for Mutiny After Midnight, which sits at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 based solely on physical sales. Johnny Blue Skies and the Dark Clouds are also set to release two covers on 7-inch vinyl for Record Store Day on April 18: Procol Harum’s “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and William Bell’s “You Don't Miss Your Water.” Simpson himself will appear in the upcoming film The Lonely Woman, directed by Boy Harsher and currently in post-production. The movie also stars FKA twigs and Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
