Supreme Court president visits justice fair in Santiago

Gloria Ana Chevesich toured the stands of the fair organized in front of the Palacio de los Tribunales yesterday. The activity aimed to bring judicial services closer to the community.

Supreme Court president Gloria Ana Chevesich attended the justice fair held on Tuesday in the plaza in front of the Palacio de Tribunales in Santiago. The Regional Secretariat of Justice and Human Rights organized the event with participation from entities including the Civil Registry, Gendarmería and university legal clinics.

Chevesich visited the stands and learned about products made in Gendarmería's Education and Work Centers by people deprived of liberty. She also highlighted the presence of the bus from the Justicia Móvil initiative, which provides guidance on issues such as domestic violence and child support.

Other authorities present included seremi Ximena Pulgar and undersecretary Pablo Mira. The justice buses have operated for more than a decade and maintain a public schedule of tours across the country.

Chile's Human Rights Undersecretary Pablo Mira dismissed three officials from the Human Rights Program and appointed lawyer Constanza Garrido to lead it and the National Search Plan. Valdivia's Guarantee Court rejected on Monday preventive prison requested by the Ministry of Security and night house arrest sought by prosecutors for three students from Universidad Austral de Chile, charged with assault on authority against Science Minister Ximena Lincolao. Instead, it ordered national arraigo, no-contact order with the victim, and biweekly check-ins, with a 120-day investigation period. Prosecutors are considering an appeal.
