Switzerland's men's curling team secured Olympic bronze with a dominant 9-1 victory over Norway in the bronze medal match at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics. The Swiss squad, undefeated in round-robin play, rebounded from a semifinal loss to Great Britain. Norway conceded the match after a memorable final throw by skip Magnus Ramsfjell.
Switzerland's men's curling team claimed bronze at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics by defeating Norway 9-1 in the bronze medal game on Friday at the Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium. The Swiss entered the match after a perfect round-robin record but a narrow 8-5 semifinal loss to Great Britain, the defending world champions. Norway had lost its semifinal to Canada.
The Swiss took control early, scoring three points in the second end with a takeout by vice-skip Benoit Schwarz-van Berkel. They stole one in the fourth end after Ramsfjell's throw overcurled, building a 4-0 lead. Norway scored one in the fifth, but Switzerland blanked the sixth and seventh ends before adding two in the eighth with another runback by Schwarz-van Berkel, extending the advantage to 6-1.
In the ninth end, Switzerland secured three more points with a takeout, prompting Ramsfjell to concede playfully with a 360-degree "spin-o-rama" delivery that did not reach the house. Norway skipped the tenth end.
Switzerland shot 91 percent on takeouts, achieving 44 compared to Norway's 22. The victory marks Switzerland's first men's curling Olympic medal since 2018 in Pyeongchang and the country's fifth overall in the discipline.
"First of all, it's amazing," Swiss skip Yannick Schwaller said. "Coming out with a medal after the last four years... to win a medal here feels fantastic."
Schwarz-van Berkel added, "We’re not going to lie, yesterday was a huge disappointment... But coming back with an Olympic bronze medal for Switzerland feels pretty good right now."
Ramsfjell reflected, "We’re proud of what we did, making it to the semifinals for the first time in 16 years for Norway." He noted the team's focus on fun, including a tribute to Thomas Ulsrud by wearing distinctive pants in one match. Norway sought its first curling medal since 2010.
The gold medal game between Canada and Great Britain is set for Saturday.
