The Minnesota Twins came from behind to defeat the New York Mets 5-3 on Tuesday night at Citi Field, snapping a four-game losing streak. Rookie Nolan McLean pitched five perfect innings for the Mets before the Twins rallied in the sixth. The loss extended New York’s skid to a franchise-tying sixth-longest 12 games.
Nolan McLean dominated early, retiring the first 15 Twins batters he faced and striking out seven of the first nine. The rookie finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA, but Matt Wallner led off the sixth with a single and Byron Buxton followed with a two-run homer, cutting the Mets’ 3-0 lead to 3-2. It marked the second time this season McLean has taken a perfect game into the sixth, the first coming April 3 in San Francisco. Opponents have hit just .075 against him in the first five innings this year.
