V candidate removed 74 minutes after exposé

Islam Qatesh was removed from the Left Party's municipal list in Karlskrona after Expressen revealed his praise for terrorist groups.

Expressen published an article at 20.02 about 53-year-old Islam Qatesh who has openly praised groups such as al-Qaida, Hamas and Hezbollah since 2006. He had been listed as eligible for the Left Party in the municipal election in Karlskrona.

At 21.26 group leader Henrik Holmkvist announced that Qatesh was removed from the list. “The information published by Expressen is serious and we have informed Islam Qatesh that he is immediately struck from the Karlskrona municipal list and that he can no longer be a member of the Left Party”, Holmkvist wrote.

Qatesh shortly thereafter announced on Facebook that he wants to leave the Left Party and all his assignments. The party states that it will investigate how he could be placed on the list in the first place.
