Participants from the Left Party chanted ”hela Malmö hatar polisen” during Saturday’s Pride parade in Malmö. Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer called the action scandalous.
Thousands of people took part in the Pride parade that concluded Pride Week in Malmö on Saturday. Rainbow flags and music filled the streets as associations, companies and political parties marched through the city centre.
A video shows participants in the Left Party’s section of the parade chanting ”hela Malmö hatar polisen”. Tove Karnerud, chair of the Left Party in Malmö, explained that the message was a protest against racism and homophobia within the police.
”It is actually completely scandalous”, Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer wrote on Instagram. He considered the context ill-chosen and said the police deserve respect.
The Left Party’s Jonas Lindberg said the expression was inappropriate and that the party would discuss the matter internally to prevent a repeat.
