Vansind to release sophomore album Hævnen in May

Danish folk metal band Vansind has announced their second album, Hævnen, set for release on May 1, 2026, via Mighty Music. The album follows their 2023 debut Mørket and explores themes of revenge, betrayal, freedom, and sacrifice. The first single, Det Sidste Nådeskys, is now available on streaming platforms along with its official video.

Vansind, formed in Slagelse, Denmark, in the summer of 2019, returns with Hævnen, building on the success of their debut album Mørket from 2023. The band describes the new release as a more refined and emotionally charged work that delves into the darker consequences of choice, loyalty, and loss. As they state, “With ‘Hævnen’, we wanted to explore the darker consequences of choice, loyalty and loss. It’s an album about standing your ground, even when the cost is high.”

Musically, Hævnen expands Vansind's signature sound, blending brutal metal riffs with ancient folk melodies. Thunderous growls and soaring clean vocals are accompanied by haunting bagpipes and tin whistles, creating a primal and cinematic atmosphere. Lyrically, the album draws from Nordic mythology and Scandinavian history, reinterpreting ancient legends with modern intensity to bridge ancestral struggles and contemporary experiences.

The band has established a strong live presence, performing at festivals such as CopenHell in Denmark, Cernunnos Pagan Fest in France, Ragnarök Festival in Germany, Malpaga Folk & Metal Fest in Italy, and Warhorns Vikings II in the UK. This reputation for raw intensity aligns with the album's themes.

Hævnen will be available on May 1, 2026, in LP formats (blue and black vinyl, each limited to 200 copies), CD, and digital. Pre-orders are open now. The tracklist includes: 1. Det Største Offer, 2. Alvild, 3. Blodhævn, 4. Det Sidste Nådeskys, 5. I Yggdrasils Skygge, 6. Truslen Fra Dybet, 7. Skæbnens Tunge Vej.

Vansind's lineup consists of J. Asgaard on male vocals, Line Burglin on female vocals, Rikke Klint Johansen on keyboard, tin whistle, and bagpipe, Kirk Backarach and Nikolaj Madsen on guitars, James Atkin on bass, and Danni Lyse Jelsgaard on drums. Confirmed 2026 live dates include performances in Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Germany, Denmark, and Romania.
