Viktor Hovland wins Travelers Championship with new driver

Viktor Hovland defeated Scottie Scheffler in a playoff to win the Travelers Championship after switching to a Ping G440 LST driver.

Hovland had used a Ping G425 LST driver from 2020 through 2024 and ranked in the top 25 in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee each season. Performance declined in 2025 and early this season, dropping him outside the top 100 in that category.

He began testing the G440 LST at the Truist Championship and continued at the PGA Championship. Hovland cited improved spin consistency with the new club compared to the older model.

At TPC River Highlands, Hovland led the field in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee and hit all but 13 fairways. He split the fairway on both 18th-hole tee shots in the final round and playoff before making the winning birdie putt.
