Violet Grohl shrugs off nepo baby label in new interview

Violet Grohl, the 19-year-old daughter of Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, says she doesn't mind being called a nepo baby. In an interview with The Forty-Five, she acknowledged the advantages of her family name while urging listeners to judge her music on its merits. Her debut album, Be Sweet to Me, arrives on May 29.

Violet Grohl recognizes the privileges that come with her surname. “Obviously, doors are open for me because of my last name,” the singer-songwriter told The Forty-Five. She has faced the nepo baby label since age 13 but remains unfazed. “I don’t care, I really don’t... So call me a nepo baby all you want. It’s ‘whatever’ to me. I just hope that eventually people will give me a shot.” The eldest daughter of Dave Grohl and Jordyn Blum has performed with Foo Fighters in the past. Her debut album, Be Sweet to Me, was recorded in 2024 and 2025. It draws inspiration from late 1980s and early 1990s alternative rock acts including Pixies, Soundgarden, Cocteau Twins, and the Breeders. Grohl released her single “595” last month, along with a music video directed by Nikki Milan Houston. “There’s something so powerful about that period of music, from the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw,” she said in a statement. She plans festival appearances this summer, including Pukkelpop in Belgium in August, Reading and Leeds festivals in the United Kingdom, and Shaky Knees in Atlanta in September. Grohl invited skeptics to experience her work firsthand: “Come see me live... Come listen to my music, and then you can decide for yourself if I’m worthy of this career or not.”
