The Amhara Region Women, Youth and Social Affairs Bureau announced that 8.6 million citizens will participate in this year's summer voluntary service.
Office head W/ro Bertukan Sisay told Fana Media Corporation that the service focuses on building youth character and strengthening national unity.
Of the participants, 5.8 million are youth. She noted that 15 million community members will benefit and that the plan aims to save 20 billion birr in government spending.
The service runs from Hamle 1, 2018 to Meskerem 20, 2019 E.C. It includes the Green Legacy Program, house construction and renovation, and educational support.
