Guanajuato's General Prosecutor's Office reported on April 10 the death of 27-year-old amateur footballer Óscar Adrián Granados Borunda, missing for nine days in Celaya. Family and friends had shared his image seeking information, while official protocols were activated. Authorities opened an investigation without disclosing the exact discovery site or cause of death to prevent interference.
Óscar Adrián Granados, known as ‘El Boru’, played goalkeeper in the local amateur football league and worked as a physical education teacher in primary schools. Born in July 1997, he lived in the Los Naranjos area of Celaya, where he was last seen. A fan of Inter de Milán, he often appeared in photos wearing the Italian team's jersey.
His family reported him missing nine days prior, prompting an intensive search with support from Quadratín Bajío. On April 10, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed his body was found, withholding details to avoid hindering the investigation file.
This case adds to two prior killings of amateur footballers in Celaya this year. Carlos Rodríguez Bautista, ‘El Manzana’, was murdered on February 3 after a match in the San Juanico neighborhood, according to N+. Fifteen days later, on February 18, Amed ‘El Mago’ Mendoza was killed near his home in a similar area.
La Talacha Deportes paid tribute: “Se nos adelantó un grande del fútbol de barrio, de esos que no solo atajaban balones, sino que también se ganaban el respeto de todos dentro y fuera de la cancha. Óscar ‘El Boru’ no solo fue un porterazo, también un gran compañero, rival, amigo y leyenda”. Authorities are examining possible links between these incidents.
