AMC Theatres CEO backs Paramount Warner Bros. Discovery merger

Adam Aron, chief executive of AMC Theatres, has urged regulators to approve the proposed merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery. In an opinion piece published on July 29, Aron said the deal would strengthen film production and benefit theaters. He also rejected concerns raised by state attorneys general.

Aron argued that a combined company would release at least 30 films each year with extended theatrical windows of 45 days for premium video-on-demand and 90 days for subscription services. He said these commitments address the need for more movies and longer exclusive runs in cinemas.

The executive noted that AMC recorded its highest revenues and adjusted EBITDA in the second quarter of 2026, marking the company's strongest performance in its 106-year history. He attributed recent box office gains to titles such as Super Mario, Project Hail Mary, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Aron stated that the merger has already received clearance from competition authorities in about 65 countries. He dismissed the state attorneys general lawsuits, saying the complaints misunderstand the economics of the theater business and that AMC can negotiate fair terms independently.

The op-ed highlighted Paramount's recent increase in film releases under new leadership and its decision to extend theatrical windows without waiting for regulatory approval.
