Audit flags safety concerns at Delhi’s CM SHRI school

An internal audit has highlighted structural and sanitation problems at a CM SHRI school in northwest Delhi. The findings come as the Delhi government begins a broader review of school infrastructure.

A CM SHRI school in Daryapur Kalan shows signs of neglect. Plaster is peeling from walls, brickwork is exposed, and one building carries a ‘Danger/No Entry’ warning. Of 13 blocks on campus, the audit found only four structurally adequate.

The school serves 1,194 students, most of them girls. It has no girls’ toilets despite a requirement of 56, only five drinking water outlets against a need for 24, and limited facilities for children with special needs.

Fire safety equipment in several areas requires repair or replacement. The report recommends immediate repairs, retrofitting or demolition where needed.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ordered a citywide review of government schools last week. She noted that nearly 700 schools may need new buildings or major redevelopment.
