Delhi education minister directs schools to improve learning outcomes

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood has directed government school principals to create action plans after Class 12 pass rates declined. He held meetings with over 700 principals on Saturday to address the issue.

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the focus must remain on learning outcomes and education quality rather than infrastructure alone. Delhi recorded a Class 12 pass percentage of 92.10 this year, down from 95.18 percent previously. The national average stood at 85.20 percent.

Sood stated that Delhi's resources exceed those of many other states. He plans additional zonal meetings with the remaining principals. The Government Schools Teachers’ Association wrote to him on Friday requesting withdrawal of show-cause notices issued over the results.

The association attributed lower marks partly to the new On-Screen Marking system implemented by the CBSE without sufficient preparation. Students and parents reported marks lower than expected and faced issues during re-evaluation applications.
